This year’s sale
weekend and an opportunity to view plants prior to Chelsea Horticultural
Show took place on 2/4th May.
with the announcement that HRH The Price of Wales has granted B&L a
royal warrant. Founded in 1901 the nursery has been supplying Highgrove
House, Gloucestershire with begonias and delphiniums for a number of
years. This prestigious award means B&L are now able to display the
Prince of Wales Feathers on their plant labels and also at this year’s
Chelsea Exhibition where they have been exhibiting since the first show
On day one of the
weekend all the new generation of Langdons were present; Stephen, Simon
and Nick who said he was delighted to accept the position of Vice
President of the NBS. Nick hoped that he would be able to promote the
society and of course encourage the growing and propagation of begonias.
After such a wet
and dismal winter it was a shear delight to open the pre Chelsea
greenhouse door and see the vibrant colours and the glossy foliage.
Bearing in mind Chelsea is three weeks away the plants looked great.
The weekend is an
opportunity to obtain quality stock and also meet up with old friends.
It was a surprise for the locals to find that the first person there was
Derek Bonner, the NBS Treasurer who had come over from South Wales. A
very early start for him.
A pleasant morning
was spent viewing, socialising, and buying of course and looking forward
to the new season with anticipation. These pictures hopefully give a
flavour of things to come in our own greenhouses and on the show bench.
