Blackmore & Langdon's Open Days & Sale Weekend  2019
3rd.  4th. &  5th. May

I missed this event last year so I was really looking forward to attending this year.  I picked up Tony Willoughby and we were some of the first to arrive on the Friday.  We were met by Nick Langdon who was standing by the NBS stand that Mike Avis has erected the previous day.  Then into was the show house.

What can I say but, wow.  After a long dreary winter (what is new) to see the plants and the blooms gave us a lift.  They looked wonderful.  I judge a pot not only by the flower but its leaves.  The foliage was superb, vibrant, glossy and verdant.  I wish I could grow like that.
As for the blooms, bearing mind Chelsea is a few weeks away looked  great.  Many would have graced the show bench not just an exhibition stand.  What stood out for me?  I normally donít like whites as there seems very few good ones around (or is it that I canítí grow them?)  but the Lancelotís looked first rate.  Maybe they may go over slightly by Chelsea but the backup plants that were in the sidings looking good.  The ones after that were interesting in that they were being grown in Singletons compost rather than Bulrush.  They were a bit slower but looking promising.

Whatever the medal award at Chelsea the display will be credit to Blackmore and Langdon and a
showcase for begonias particularly.   One thing of note, all the plants, begonias, delphiniums, ferns et al all grown by B&L.  They are probably one of the few exhibitors that donít buy in.

All the best to B&L for Chelsea, Hampton Court and beyond.
