Dave and his
wife Pauline joined the Society at the Southsea Show in 1975 and
quickly established themselves as prominent and active members. Within a
few years Dave was exhibiting at the London and National Shows in addition
to Southsea.
Hybridising has produced for him one of the most frequently exhibited
begonias, Nichola Coates, named after his daughter. Other very
successful introductions are Vera Coates and most recently Emily Rose.
Dave was appointed Area Representative in 1988 and also judges at Society
shows including the National.
