Part 2
Phil Champion travelled over 400 miles from his home near
Reading to the Show.
Here is his second report and pictures of the magnificent exhibits.
Continuing
with my flit around Ayr show this is some of other classes of pots that
were on display (A,B,C)..
The baskets were also quite well supported .(D,E)..
Species & foliage is still growing in popularity (F), this plant
was quite stunning (G).. Terry Tasker was over the moon with his
blooms, so much so that he put a party hat on
(H) winning 6 & 3 cut blooms in the intermediate classes (I,J)
also having the best yellow in Monica Bryce. (K). This
trophy had some well known names engraved on it (L).
This is the novice section for cut blooms and this man Robert
Robertson (M) and his good wife Alison, are ones to watch
in the future. They have been growing Begonias for only 3 years, they
won't be novices for much longer If the 2 6 boards (N,O) were put
together and entered into the British Championship they would not have
been out of place.
The story behind these 3 Linda Jacksons (P) over dinner on
Saturday evening was jaw dropping. Although the centres were far from
perfect all 3 blooms were 10 inches plus This is where it all goes out
the window as they are from cuttings struck in March and grown in 4 inch
pots supported only in a larger pot with grit in for stability.
Afraid this was my only picture of the group classes (Q) my
apologies. I only managed a few words with my counter part Ronnie Welsh (R)
on the Scottish web site, I did try to teach him
on the finer points of life (S)..
Can't end without showing the Scottish Begonia display (T)
and their 75 year existence, this cake was presented to Betty Kennedy (U).
Finally Betty & Sam who made my trip so worth while (V),
they make visitors so welcome you feel part of the show right from the
beginning, thank you.
If I have missed anyone please accept my apologies,
I will make amends on my next visit again thanks to all. The last
couple of pictures to end with are novice cut blooms
(W) and an overall view of
the exhibits
(X,Y). Finally best bloom in show on
John Hamilton's board Tequilia Sunrise (Z).
Thanks to all for an
enjoyable weekend see you again soon.
