Report on the Show & more pictures by National
Committee member Ian Rhys Williams
Dorothy and I travelled down to the South Coast Show at Portchester on
Saturday 2nd. of August. We were greeted warmly and were made
to feel at home as one of the family. Alan Harris (National
Secretary) judged and was accompanied by Andrew MacDougall (Central Area
Representative) as Trainee Judge. The spectacle within the hall was
truly breathtaking and the quality of exhibits were truly magnificent.
Brian Simmons, Dave Coates, Bill Squibb and all other exhibitors and
helpers had tirelessly worked so that the Portchester Show was a
resounding success. The stage display was a rainbow of colour and the
quality of blooms and foliage plants were truly spectacular. Brian and
Dave posed for a photograph in front of the stage display
as they had,
thirty years previously at the South Coast Show at Southsea. Roy Seare
displayed a lovely pink seedling on his three cut-bloom board.
Pauline Coates held a beautiful cut-bloom named after her, which was
raised by her husband Dave. Gary Dando, Don Dewey, John Chiswell, Phill
Champion and Roy Seare and others, travelled far to support the show. A
memorable and enjoyable day was had by all who attended. |
