This year’s show was held as usual at the picturesque Pannier Market, Bideford, North Devon, in conjunction with the Bideford Gardeners’ Club, the new title for the local horticultural society.
     It was a successful and enjoyable event thanks to the stalwart exhibitors, albeit diminishing in numbers, and the tremendous work and organisation put in by our Show Manager, Mike Avis, and his team of helpers. How Mike does this after masterminding the National at Shrewsbury over the previous weekend takes some believing.
     This year a new class was introduced, namely, a single stem pot with no side shoots – Scottish style. A new cup, donated by the family of the late Don Dewey was awarded to the winner of this class. Don’s nephew, Steve, travelled down from Nantwich, Cheshire, to make the inaugural presentation to the winner, Lakin Earl and also the other begonia trophies. The Mayor and Mayoress of Bideford were also present.
     There were a number of unusual and interesting exhibits on show especially in the foliage sections. Many are already planning their exhibits for 2016 already
     Incidentally this will be the 50th anniversary of the Bideford Club Annual Show.. Some achievement, when many similar clubs in the area have folded. This milestone is sure to marked in some special way.
