17th. June
It's fast approaching show time, my first will be the
South Coast Show on the 28th.
& 29th. July at
Havant Garden Centre, it's now only 6 weeks
away all buds have been removed up till this time and now have to allow
the next 2 buds to develop. I have selected 40 plants grown for cut
blooms for the show, these are in the shade house
(A) along with plants for the
National which is 8
weeks away (B). There are approx. 60
plants for the National in the shade house (C).
The greenhouse (D & E) is full of
plants just for the National, another 80 plus plants.
You may have noticed that the plants on the left hand side of the
shade house are facing the wall, this is because the plants tend to
lean forward if left facing towards the light
(F). All plants have had 2 feeds, one feed of calcium nitrate
and have now had a balanced feed.
This plant of Anniversary
(G) was going to be a restricted
pot, but have changed my mind and will remove the side shoots. I had
tried to grow a couple of pots but things have not quite worked out,
this one the side shoot failed to grow sufficiently
(H). This pot of Sceptre has been
grown as a single stem in a 10'' pot but has 6 side shoots, (I)
this is just for a bit of fun. This is some of the plants ready to allow
to flower Isabel Keenan (J) Fred
Martin (K) & Can Can
(L).
Over the next 8 weeks I will try to give an insight to my approach to
the shows, first decision will be trying to guess what the weather might
do, will it stop raining and will the sun come out to play. |
