8th. July
Now it's only 3 weeks to the show at Havant, the weather over
the last week has seen plenty of rain and little sunshine. The one thing
that has changed this year my new 500 ltr water butt
(A) has not been anywhere near empty,
so have been able to use rain water all year. My only concern is that
rain water tends to make growth a bit soft and will therefore this week
give a high potash feed to my Havant plants.
With the weather so cool plants are not needing much watering at
all, most of the plants are nearly going a week between watering.
Overwatering is easy to do with the weather as it is plants tend to
sweat very easy (B), I'm trying to
keep my plants slightly drier. Looking at my buds
(C) I am a little concerned over my timing though, will
just have to wait and see, it's all in the lap of whoever. This weekend
has prompted me to look carefully at my plants for the National with 5
weeks to go have decided to select the larger bud to most of my plants.
This is the bud of Anniversary that was selected last week
(D). This weekend was spent selecting
buds from the rest of my National plants (E),
also
removing side shoots and basal growths. Some were used for
cuttings (F) to hopefully allow for
some pollen for hybridising later in the year.
It's all getting a little crowded in the greenhouse and the shade
house so to give a little more room some plants have been selected to
sit on the floor of the shade house (G)
and a couple that don't look quite up to the task have been moved out to
the garden. So now everything has been stopped
(H). The greenhouse plants are also now looking for elbow room
(I & J) as well, but these will have
to wait for another 3 weeks before they can be spread out.
Now I can't wait to see some plants in flower in hopefully 3 & 5
weeks time.
