12th. August
Well my prayers were answered the sun came out for a few days it
opened up a few more blooms and only caused a couple to go over. I woke
up on the morning at 3-30 to start cutting blooms. The problem I had was
before I had even cut the first bloom another member of the family
(A) who was out on the tiles came
into the shade house with something hanging out of her mouth which she
promptly let loose. A bat was then flying around with the cat in hot
pursuit, plants were rocking back and forth for what seemed an age
before it managed to fly out, I was amazed that not one plant was
damaged.
Soon all the blooms were cut and loaded into the car
(B) even a couple of spares behind the
front seats (C). We set off at 6-45
for the 107 mile trip the wife was navigator for the trip her sense of
direction is second to none useless to say the least, my sat nav is in
my other car stuck at the repair shop waiting for a new computer. We
arrived at Webbs Garden Centre with time to spare at 8-40, Dave Coates
was in the car park. Blooms out and it was soon time to start arranging
the blooms I had no idea what was going where 20 blooms to choose from
after a little shift around a couple of times with the navigator putting
her thoughts in but my deafness got suddenly worse but had to admit 1
bloom was changed when she wasn't looking. 3 classes entered the 12, 6 &
1 cut blooms all ready to go leave it in the hands of the judges Allen
Harris & John Hamilton. One final look and it was off for a breakfast in
the restaurant.
On our return the1 cut bloom (D)
had nothing but this bloom was past its best and only staged due to
the sheer size & depth. My 6 board had gained a third
(E) & my12
(F) second behind Dave Coates (G).
Happy with my entry and still feeling that my growing has improved again
this year and now understanding what my plants require. I am happy with
my compost mix, just now requiring the right varieties. Will next put
together pictures (H) from the show
soon.
